Advanced engineering concepts such as the first introduction in forensics of Apple HFS+ file system interrogation and Unicode searching, are the leading edge solution issues demanded by todays forensics professionals.

The first ever ability to recover both existing and fully deleted Exchange Server Email stores encompasses both live Email accounts, as well as Dormant accounts, that still reside at the forensics level in the file system. This engineering is not limited by Exchange Server admin settings or parameters used to configure Exchange Server systems. It includes both Exchange Server 2007 and Exchange Server 2005.

The first ever ability to recover Windows EDB search databases in various encryption formats from Vista and above Windows systems will also soon be introduced. The amount of information recovered is literally staggering in comparison to other file system artifacts. This data store alone is more singularly important than any other user related data store on most systems. While it can be impacted by a user, it is seldom found to be the case that Windows Search is not in use. Process information is included, as are on hand email indices, user profile information, and long destroyed and overwritten file information. All have a striking presence in the default settings of Windows EDB, as seen through advanced ILookPI processing.

CPR Tools and Perlustro Enter Strategic, Forensic Level Data Recovery Alliance

Press Releases

PSIClone™ as their direct attached hardware platform for recovering data and files from both corrupted devices and systems, as well as for detailed forensics analysis. The process also includes the creation of images from both functional and failing devices. PSIClone™ was the only tool that exists with its extensive error handling capabilities in addition to major innovations which uniquely allow data retrieval from seriously damaged electronic storage. Processes which go far beyond the capabilities of software systems alone. CPR Tools perfected this process through research and practical application engineering perfected over decades in the data recovery industry.

By combining the hardware error handling capabilities of PSIClone™ with the extensive Forensic feature set of ILook and ILook IXimager, data recovery technicians and forensics experts now have complete one stop solution which has no equal. According to John Benkert, Director of Research and Development at CPR Tools, “It truly is a natural and exciting alliance. These products work perfectly together and provide a complete data recovery solution using fast and effective hardware (PSIClone™) and the industry standard for forensic recovery software (ILook™).”

About Perlustro

Perlustro, L.P. is a worldwide trusted provider of forensics software to Intelligence, Military and Law Enforcement agencies. Since 1999 until now, Perlustro has provided its suite of computer forensics software exclusively to these agencies. In partnership with CPR Tools, the Company will now begin offering versions of its toolset for use by the commercial sector. Perlustro’s current forensics suite consists of ILook and IXimager, which are widely considered the most advanced tools for forensic imaging and analysis. Perlustro’s tools are currently used by thousands of government users in all 50 U.S. States, in more than 60 countries and by more than 90 U.S. federal agencies for investigations involving terrorism, white collar crimes, child pornography and many other crimes. http://www.perlustro.com

Elliot Spencer, President of Perlustro stated that the demand for data recovery was now so great that forensics professionals alone could not meet the emerging commercial demand of end users to recover important business and personal information. Even when backups are regularly scheduled, hardware failures and software corruption can lead to the loss of important business-critical data in particular irreplaceable accounting records. The loss of such data could be devastating to businesses of all sizes. Thanks to the new alliance between Perlustro and CPR Tools, a solid platform for recovering from this type of loss is now available. Perlustro and CPR Tools have decades of experience in dealing with failing storage devices, devices with intransigent mechanical errors and corrupted digital data recovery.

About CPR Tools

CPR Tools, Inc. has been at the forefront of the data recovery industry for over two decades. In that time, the company has developed many of the methods and techniques used by recovery engineers all over the world. In addition to providing data recovery services to public and private sector markets, CPR Tools has trained many recovery technicians in the field. The launch of the CPR Tools’ retail product line was a natural progression for the firm. PSIClone™ is the flagship data imaging and cloning device in a robust line of products which include aids to hardware based recoveries, designed by recovery engineers for recovery engineers. The Company’s data security products are led by the Hammer™ family of data eradication devices. Built for PATA/SATA and SCSI drives, Hammer™ eliminates data in full compliance with NIST 800-88 guidelines.

Data recovery professionals all over the world have increased productivity and profitability through the use of CPR Tools’ complete line of head combs, used as an aid in hardware based data recovery efforts.

The development of must-have tools for data recovery professionals is key to CPR Tools’ product line, but home users benefit greatly from data security products like Hammer™ and BangDisk32™.

http://www.cprtools.net

Both companies know from their own long experiences that the failure rate of storage devices increases every day, and with increased storage capacity growth, the likelihood of data corruption increases proportionally. For the first time the public has a solution which provides both an economical and scientific solution to recovering from data loss, regardless of the underlying software or hardware cause. While some destruction cannot be overcome, in the majority of cases, these combined tools establish a new threshold in data recovery.

Perlustro Selects Microsoft SQL Server to Power New World Class Forensic, Analysis and E-Discovery Tools

Press Releases

Passware, Inc. and Perlustro, L.P. has enabled the development of a new technology that will allow forensics specialists to access system data indexes on all Microsoft platforms, including Windows Vista. The technology can successfully recover data that, heretofore, has been hidden from forensics investigators.

Passware, Inc., the worldwide leader in password recovery and decryption, created the core new technologies, which leverage the company’s next generation of dynamic decryption solutions across the computer forensics spectrum, including both e-discovery and legal-based forensics research.

Additionally, the companies jointly announced that Passware’s core decryption technology is now embedded in Perlustro’s ILook software forensics products. Perlustro is a leading provider of digital forensics software, with a platform that includes complete forensics and e-discovery suites. ILook is the software of choice for forensics specialists in domestic and international Intelligence, Military and Law Enforcement agencies.

ILook will launch its commercial version toolset later this year, and it will incorporate the full complement of Passware’s decryption technologies, allowing forensics personnel unparalleled access to electronic data.

“This is an exciting development, and one that addresses important e-discovery challenges facing today’s forensics professionals, including processing speed and cost,” said Passware President Dmitry Sumin. “The upcoming line of Perlustro products, which have integrated a newly designed platform of Passware advanced decryption tools, will provide forensically sound access to data and will do so more quickly and less expensively than competing technologies.”

Mr. Sumin said that Perlustro’s forensics and e-discovery solutions will also elevate e-discovery to a completely new level because all users – including those with minimal or no forensics training – will now be able to contribute to the e-discovery process. With other tools in use today, only highly trained forensics professionals can make major contributions to these e-discovery processes, resulting in a more expensive and time-consuming effort.

“Working with Passware’s team, we were able to create a cost effective solution that will dramatically increase the speed of every aspect of digital investigations,” said Perlustro President Elliot Spencer. “By combining Perlustro’s revolutionary forensics toolset with the Passware tools – and with Microsoft’s SQL Server 64, which is a critical component of Perlustro’s ILook toolbase – we created a truly winning combination, and one that we’re excited to share with the government and commercial forensics community.”

About Passware, Inc.

Founded in 1998, Passware, Inc. provides help desk personnel, law enforcement, forensics agencies, IT professionals, business and home users around the world with security tools to ensure data availability in the event of lost passwords. href="http://www.sarc-wv.com">www.sarc-wv.com

Backbone Announces Partnership With Perlustro L.P.

ILookPI To Contain World’s Largest Digital Steganography Application Hash Set

Fairmont, WV November 6, 2008-Backbone Security, the industry leader in digital steganalysis software, has entered into an agreement with Perlustro L.P. to include hash values of files associated with digital steganography applications in the new ILookPI™ toolkit. ILook forensic tools have trusted and court validated 10 year history of use by law enforcement, military, and intelligence agencies around the world, and it is the only analysis tool used by many large government agencies. For the past 6 years, ILook was distributed only by the United States Federal Government, but the new versions of the forensic tools, for the first time, will now be available to the commercial sector.

Hash values from Backbone’s Steganography Application Fingerprint Database (SAFDB) based on the SHA-1 hashing algorithm, will be included in ILookPI™ to allow digital forensic examiners to detect file artifacts associated with steganography applications on seized computers or other digital storage media. The functionality will be automated in ILookPI to where the investigator does not have to understand all the details of steganalysis in order to achieve inherent value from the tools. Detecting the presence of a steganography application during the forensic examination of seized media is a very strong indication these stealth type applications were used to hide information that may have evidentiary value in an investigation.

Use of anti-forensic tools to conceal or otherwise eliminate evidence of criminal activity is on the increase. Steganography applications are fundamentally anti-forensic tools that conceal information from examiners who use only the standard examination techniques available in most forensic tools. Essentially, the user hides personal or secret digital information in seemingly innocuous digital files on a computer system.

SAFDB is maintained in Backbone’s Steganography Analysis and Research Center (SARC) and is widely recognized as the world’s largest commercially available database of steganography applications.

When released, ILookPI™ will be the most widely used law enforcement digital forensic tool with an integrated capability to detect the presence of steganography applications from any digital or seized media.

For more information about ILookPI™, please contact Perlustro at (405) 330-2235 or e-mail inquiries@perlustro.com.

About the SARC

The SARC is a Center of Excellence in advanced steganography research and development established within Backbone Security to create and maintain a national repository of steganography applications, fingerprints, and signatures. The SARC has created the world’s largest commercially available hash set exclusive to steganography applications and is the leading provider of world-class forensic tools and techniques for detecting the presence or use of steganography applications and extracting information hidden with those applications.

About Perlustro L.P.

Perlustro L.P. is a privately held computer engineering firm specializing in forensic software development. Perlustro develops the ILook IXimager, the world’s leading computer forensic imaging tool in addition to ILookPI, an analysis toolset. This is now accompanied by a new complete line of EDRM E-Discovery tools which blend value with speed to set new standards in the harsh economics of E-Discovery solutions.

Contact: Jim Wingate, Vice President for West Virginia Operations and Director, SARC<br
